Introduction

The Framingham Scale determines the likelihood, as a percentage, of you contracting Coronary Heart Disease within the following ten year period.

To complete a Framingham CHD Risk assessment for a loaded subject, you need to know a variety of parameters:

  • Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressures
  • Total Cholesterol reading
  • HDL reading
  • Smoking History (Date started; type; quantity and  actual date of quitting) &
  • Diabetic information

These readings are required for the software to assess Current Risk and record it as a percentage.

You then have the opportunity to discuss the results with the subject and discuss potential improvements that the subject can effect. For instance, if Blood Pressure is currently high then you can graphically show the potential improvement by reducing systolic BP or the potential improvement in quitting smoking.

Any improvement should reduce the Risk. Some improvements can be very dramatic and reduce the Risk significantly.

An explanation of the interface is shown below:

The graph at the top of the page shows the difference in the Potential and Current Risk according to the inputs in the red and green highlighted areas.

The Current risk can be changed at any time. This also updates any relevant lifestyle data.

The PDF icons denoted by 'Launch Graph' allow the the operator to print a report to Adobe PDF format. The Framingham report is also included in the Individual Summary Report.
