Concepts - SSL (Secure Socket Layer)

< Back to Concepts TOC

  1. Fitech uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) to encrypt data communication between your browser and the server. SSL is a communications transport protocol and now referred to as TSL, although it is still popularly known as SSL. It is the same encryption mechanism that you experience when online shopping.

  2. It is easy to identify whether you are using SSL as the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) or address in your brower will start with https:// rather than http:// - You can still access Fitech using http://www.fitechv5.com/ however you will be redirected to https://www.fitechv5.com/

  3. Fitech has purchased a SSL Certificate from Geotrust, an acknowledged security provider for Internet Applications. This SSL certificate is your guarantee that when you are accessing Fitech, you really are accessing Fitech and not some spoof application.

  4. Geotrust provide a Site Seal which communicates with their systems to provide an online seal for you. By clicking on the Geotrust Seal which only displays if the site is www.fitechv5.com, you will see the information related to Fitech. Please see figure 1.

  5. If you are using a dedicated Fitech Solution rather than the Fitech Portal, Fitech can organise a SSL certificate for you using any of the major certificate providers if the solution is being hosted on the Fitech Cloud. If you are hosting the system yourself, we can also organise this for you or provide the necessary consultancy.
